Your Rights When Filing an FIR

  • Police must register an FIR for cognizable offences — they cannot refuse.
  • You are entitled to a free copy of the FIR immediately after registration.
  • FIR must be registered in the language you understand.
  • You can file an FIR at any police station in KPK regardless of jurisdiction.
  • If police refuse, you can file directly before a Judicial Magistrate under Cr.P.C Section 22-A.
  • You can also approach the District Police Officer (DPO/SSP) or submit online complaints.
